New Perspective

on

Last night I volunteered at a Title 1 night for Hunter Elementary downtown.

It’s a strange feeling to walk into a school when you’ve been out for so long. It is also a strange feeling to talk to a kid when you are so used to talking with adults all day long.

Today, the memory of those kids is with me. Their smiles, the way they loved the simplest of gifts, the way they approach life itself.

This new perspective is a gift from God. I understand that I need to serve almost more than the kids need me to serve.

I understand the person who needs to change isn’t necessarily the person I’m serving. It’s primarily me.

I know what you mean….I think I have learned more from kids than anyone else, and probably more than they ever learned from me!
