This week I’ve been in the passage James 1:17-18. It says:
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
God is the only constant and consistent in a world that is continually changing. This is really something to be thankful for.
Where I fail to have consistency in loving, he is the perfect example. Instead of making me feel inconsistent or continually not measuring up – he simply says to worship and follow him, and I’ll become more consistent through him.
It blows my mind that I can completely fail time and time again, and I’m still considered the firstfruit of his creatures. I’m still the object of his affection. I’m still loved completely and consistently.
How do I know this? The Bible. I’m beginning to see the larger story knit together, I’m beginning to see just of a glimpse of God’s love for us. And it is amazing. It’s one large love story of a people being inconsistent, and God being faithful and bringing them back.
Over and over you see his provision, his love, his consistency – even in the midst of the people grumbling, cursing him, and questioning his presence and power.
This type of love is something that humbles me. It gives me a reason to worship. It gives me a reason to be thankful.
